The search is on to find Scotland’s finest haggis.
The bi-annual Scottish Haggis Championships takes place at the Scottish Craft Butchers trade fair in Perth on Sunday 12th May.
Other highlights of the event include the Scottish Pork Sausage Championships, Butcher Wars singles and pairs competitions, the Meat Skills Scotland finals, and a sausage linking competition where challengers will see how many sausages they can link in one minute! It’s a fantastic day for Scotland’s master butchers and suppliers to the meat trade.
The current Scottish Haggis Champion is Dumfries butcher, Stuart Houston, pictured below receiving his trophy at the 2017 event. Stuart’s haggis is made to a secret family recipe handed down from his grandfather, Bert “Kiddie” Houston, who set up the family firm J B Houston nearly 70 years ago.
The Scottish Haggis Championships are part of a programme of celebrations for the ‘Year of the Haggis’ which celebrate one of Scotland’s favourite unique foods.
