We are delighted to confirm a new sponsorship package with Garioch Community Kitchen in Inverurie, which will be used to provide funded places in children’s cookery classes over the next 12 months.
Garioch Community Kitchen is a charity which offers a range of services including practical workshops for both adults and children, teaching cookery skills to improve cooking confidence, food preparation and dietary choices, and promote the long-term benefits of a healthy balanced diet.
Hamlyns are sponsoring 80 funded places in holiday and after school cookery classes over the next 12 months. Anyone who meets the Funded Space criteria can apply for a funded place. This includes people in receipt of housing benefit, universal credit, families in receipt of free school meals (for those from P4 onwards), carers in receipt of carers allowance and looked after children.
Kicking it off are the Summer Junior Cooking classes, which run on 8, 10, 19 and 22 July and 7 August, with classes for children aged 5-8 and 8 years and over.
Sarah Bell from Garioch Community Kitchen said: “We are hugely grateful to Hamlyns of Scotland for this support. Our aim at the Garioch Community Kitchen is to encourage an early interest in healthy food which is why we offer our junior cooking classes during the school holidays as well as after school. We find that providing children with hands-on practical cooking classes encourages them to try new foods as well as cooking at home and is a life-long skill.”
Alan Meikle, Managing Director of Hamlyns of Scotland said: “We have worked with Garioch Community Kitchen on several of events and are always impressed with their enthusiasm and ability to really engage the children. We’re delighted to support these funded places, to enable the staff to pass this enthusiasm for cooking and healthy eating on to children who would otherwise not have the opportunity to attend these classes.”
