We had a fabulous day at Taste of Grampian at Thainstone on Saturday. The sun shone all day, and visitors came in their thousands to see, taste and buy the best of Grampian’s produce, including Hamlyns porridge of course.
The day was packed with cookery demonstrations by celebrity chefs including The Incredible Spicemen and Lady Claire Macdonald, and local chefs from Moonfish, Ardoe House and Braehead Foods, as well as cookery competitions and entertainment from a wide range of dancers, musicians and bands.
We were delighted to be one of the sponsors again this year, sponsoring the children’s education tent, which had a full programme of hands-on simple cooking, and demonstrations of easy things to make at home, led by Liz Ashworth. The children made muesli pots and crannachan to take home (although many couldn’t wait until then!), tasted the difference between smoked and hot roasted salmon, and took part in a fun session with Lidl’s Chef in Residence, Kevin Love who showed why your brain, tongue, ears and nose are all important to taste.
Liz also opened the day in the outdoor arena with a well-attended demonstration of three new recipes she had created for the show – an oatmeal kedgeree, a smoked salmon kedgeree salad and a delicious cream crowdie with hot chocolate summer fruit. Look out for these recipes in our recipe section soon.
