Virtual World Porridge Making Championships: The Winners

The winners of the 2021 Virtual Spurtle – the virtual version of the World Porridge Making Championships – will be announced in a day-long video reveal online tomorrow, Saturday 9 October, on the Golden Spurtle Facebook page.

To enter the Virtual World Porridge Making Championships, competitors submitted a video of themselves making their favourite oaty dish.

The competition attracted entries from as far apart as Australia, Canada, USA, New Zealand and from over Europe and the UK.

The organisers judged the entries on five criteria – appearance, execution, originality, flair and virtual taste, reflecting which dishes the judging panel most wanted to try.

The ten finalists will each receive a Hamlyns’ Perfect Porridge pack.

Charlie Miller from Carrbridge Community Council who organise the competition said: “We had a really amazing response this year. Having the championships as a virtual competition really widened the international appeal, and we’re so heartened that porridge fans from all over the world have been keen to continue to support the event. The judges spent many hours watching and scoring the entries. There were so many fantastic videos, and we’re really looking forward to revealing the top ten on Saturday.”

Alan Meikle from Hamlyns of Scotland said: “The virtual format has really increased the international flavour of the competition, and we’re really looking forward to watching porridge fans from all over the world making their favourite oaty dishes, and look forward to finding some delicious new ways with oats.”

The top 10 will be announced via the Golden Spurtle Facebook page from 11am on Saturday 9 October, with the winning video being posted around 3.30pm.
