• Method

  1. Heat the oven to 180C/160 Fan/350F/Gas 4.
  2. Oil and line a 23cm (9in) square baking tin.
  3. Measure the oats and mixed spice into a bowl.
  4. Melt the butter, syrup and soft brown sugar. And add to the oats along with the mincemeat.
  5. Stir well together and then press evenly into the prepared tin.
  6. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes till golden but still chewy.
  7. Cool in the tin and mark into squares while still warm, then store in an airtight container.
