To make a basic oatie bean burger, mash the butterbeans with the back of a fork, then add the baked beans, carrot and oats. Season lightly with salt and ground black pepper and stir well until the ingredients come together in a smooth dough.
Form into two burgers and fry in a little oil until crisp on both sides and heated through.
Drain well on kitchen towel and serve in a burger bun with lettuce and sliced tomato.
Try adding to the burger mix:
Grated cheddar cheese, parmesan or vegan alternative
Add flavours. All of the following work well:
Smoked paprika and tomato puree
Chilli flakes and a pinch of soft brown sugar
Curry paste
Basil and tomato paste
Harissa
Fajita mix
